Project Yellow Room

Akash studies in class VI in Sarthak Gurukul model rural school in village Sonari in Sitapur. His father is a farmer and Akash helps in the farm every day.

Akash lives 15 km away and often rides his bicycle, with two of his younger sisters riding pillion, to school.

The practise oriented and inclusive pedagogy of Gurukul is transforming Akash’s understanding of gender and other social issues.

During Covid Akash practised the Sarthak ethos of paying it forward and ran free classes for the children in his village. He also used the Sarthak provided laptop to attend Sarthak’s online classes

Sarthak Gurukul is a free of cost primary school where quality education is provided to children of Sonari and nearby villages. The school offers marginalised children from poor rural backgrounds equitable, happy, gender-sensitive, well structured and digitally aided formal education at zero cost. The school is attended by 480 children from 32 villages.

Sarthak Gurukul has been envisioned in such a way that it obviates the need for post-school intervention and incorporates Yellow Room elements into formal schooling.
